Living in Flow: Creating a Lifestyle That Supports You (Not Restricts You)

Hey Mavens— let’s talk about something that’s been on my heart lately: how do we know if the way we’re living is supportive or restrictive? Whether it’s our wellness routines, eating habits, spiritual practices, or even how we rest, it’s so easy to slip into patterns that feel like punishment instead of nourishment.

   Supportive vs. Restrictive Living

A supportive lifestyle feels like exhaling. It’s rooted in care, intention, and balance. You move your body because it feels good, not because you “have to.” You choose nourishing foods because they bless your body, not because you’re scared of gaining a pound.

A restrictive lifestyle, on the other hand, often comes from fear — fear of aging, of not being “enough,” or of losing control. If you constantly feel anxious about missing a workout, or guilty about enjoying dessert, that’s not self-care… that’s self-critique dressed up as discipline.

Is Your Lifestyle Based in Trust or Fear?

Ask yourself:

  • Am I choosing this because I trust my body or because I don’t?

  • Do I feel more peace or pressure following this routine?

  • If I missed a day, would I extend grace to myself or feel shame?

Living in trust means knowing your body, spirit, and emotions are on the same team. It’s knowing that one off day doesn’t erase your progress. Fear-based living, though, has you constantly chasing “perfect” — and that’s a race with no finish line.

   Honoring vs. Pushing Yourself

Maven, there’s a difference between showing up and pushing through. Honoring yourself looks like tuning in — choosing rest when you’re tired, hydration when you’re drained, laughter when life feels heavy. Pushing yourself looks like ignoring those cues in the name of “discipline.”

Your wellness should feel like a loving rhythm, not a rigid rulebook. When you honor your body, you create space for it to thrive — physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

   Try This Weekly Check-In

Take a quiet moment each Sunday with your journal and ask:

  • What supported me this week?

  • What drained me?

  • Where can I add more grace, softness, or space?

Over time, you’ll begin to see what truly nourishes your life — and release what no longer serves you.
